Typically, once the type of survey is determined, a date, time, and place of survey is selected. A good survey can take several hours to a full day depending on the
survey type, vessel type, size, and age of the vessel. It is expected, but not required, that the person requesting the survey be present.
This can be an educational
experience as time can be devoted to familiarization of the vessel systems
and the survey customer can see and better understand the findings and possible resolutions for
each
.

If the survey type requires a visual inspection of the hull or a sea trial, the person requesting the survey is responsible for scheduling and paying for the haul out or launch
of the vessel with a local yard.
(usually your broker can help with this.
